Maria has a very large extended family in the Birkirkara region. Her father, Francis Borg (1937-2028) was a department manager at the Malta Financial Services Authority which regulates banking throughout Malta. Her mother, Joanne Pullicino Borg (1965-2071, a former Miss Malta was on the board of directors of Dar Papa Frangisku (the largest homeless shelter in Malta) and is a majority stakeholder in Simonds Farsons Cisk (a brewery and food conglomerate). She was one of eight children sired by her father, one of six born of her mother and one of four children shared in common my the two. While both parents had large financial holdings, Maria had no inheritance.
Maria was brought to the orbital platform in 2007 and approved for genetic modification. She was one of the initial test subjects for the Blue Octave Project designed by Ailrinni, which was an attempt to create a human capable of flexibility and body modification of a far greater extent than presently possible. A second augmentation was performed at the orbital platform in 2011.
After graduating secondary school a year early, she received a full scholarship at the University of Malta where she earned a degree in History while simultaneously earned the credits for a degree in Philosophy. She enlisted in the Maltese military which sent her to Italy to do coursework for an officer’s commission. When she returned in 2016, she was assigned to First Battalion, C Company, the nation’s rapid response unit. In 2017, she was given command of the company. In 2018, she was assigned to First Battalion Headquarters and in 2020, given command of the battalion. She was the first woman to hold the post and the youngest person in command by several decades. In 2021, she had command of all four battalions, in effect, commanding the nation’s entire military. Historic Fort Tigne has been developed into a private residence for her.
Maria was brought to the Homestead Site in 2014 while she was in college for a third augmentation. Further augmentations were made at Merritt Island in 2018 and 2022 giving her a H.E.R. of 4.354, one of the highest readings. A remarkable degree of flexibility is apparent in her bones, although they have proven to be twenty percent denser than typical. The pigmentation of her skin has begun to express the ability to mimic its surroundings.
In 2025, Maria Borg led a coup and seized control of Malta. Using the Little sisters of Mnarja, she placed her operatives close to Pope Sylvester II and gained influence over him. After his heart attack later that year, she became Pope Maria, the first female Pope.
