Crystal's father, Marvin MacNeil was a high school sports coach in suburban Raleigh. As the area experienced rapid growth, new opportunities were common and he changed schools several times. Her mother, Cindy MacNeil, was a retail pharmacist.
Crystal had an older sister, Mackenzie, who studied municipal planning and worked for a number of small cities across the south-east. Their parents had hoped for a son but were unsuccessful in having another child.
Weeks after relocating to Florida for her new job at the Hoagland Institute, she met former NFL star quarterback Lamarr Wilson who owned a majority stake in Power-Flex Gym chain.
