Emma’s father, Joshua Forde (1951-2021) was sales director at Phonotoline Inc of New Haven until his retirement. Her mother, Melinda Turner (1964-1999) was a human resource director at the Quinnipiac Commercial Real Estate Group but was killed in a car crash on New Year’s Eve 1999.

While at Hamden Hall Country Day School, Emma followed Spanish with Latin. She participated in both the concert band and the jazz ensemble.

Emma was proficient enough in Latin from her preparatory school experience to fulfill Yale’s language requirements. While an undergraduate at Yale, Emma did summer field research in Guatemala and in Peru. While working on her doctorate, she spent extensive time in India studying mandalas. Her dissertation on Homestead Florida’s Coral Castle, while controversial, was well received.

Emma's research led the groundwork for the acousto-gravitronics technology the Hoagland Institute licensed to Quinn-Tronics and used to launch satellites from Celetra Cay and to power the tethered space elevator.
