Katie was working as a maternity room nurse when Lori Majury was brought in for the birth of her twins.  Both were in unhappy marriages.  Lori murdered her husband; Katie divorced hers.  Katie had worked maternity because she desired to have children, but her husband had been unable to impregnate her.

Katie never received a genetic augmentation, but she and Lori were both infected with the DeMarco Nanite Virus in 2025.  Lori had been the recipient of aggressive augmentations from one of Ailrinni's unsanctioned experiments.  When her nanites were passed to Katie, Katie became the equivalent of a high rated synth overnight.
