Franklin Poe's parents were both employed by Metropolitan Edison Company at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant.  Edmund Poe was a safety manager and Dawn Poe was a human resource clerk.  After the plant was removed from service, Edmund was hired by the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station and the family moved to Bloomsburg.

Franklin was an only child.  His mother was diagnosed with cancer shortly after his birth.  She was diagnosed with cancer a second time in 2001 and then again in 2009.

From 2004 until 2016, Poe worked at a genetics firm in Boston.  In 2016, he was hired by the Hoagland Institute of Titusville, Florida and placed in charge of the Institute's research project in Merritt Island, Florida.

During the DeMarco incursion in 2022, Poe suffered severe mental and emotional damage inflicted by Olena "Oaklyn" Bayer and was left catatonic.  He was placed in a stasis tank at the facility and publicly listed as having died from a brain aneurism.  When the facility was hurriedly evacuated in 2030, the tanked patients were left behind.  After the turmoil of the national lizard hunts subsided, Poe's stasis tank was unable to be located.
