Saira Chang grew up in Apple Valley, California on the edge on the Mohave Desert. Her mother was a physician who opened up a private practice general practician office while Saira was a toddler. Saira's father was a social worker.
Saira met her husband, Aristotle Niarchos, shortly after moving to Florida to work at the Hoagland Institute. He was a local insurance broker. Saira's husband was adversely affected by the DeMarco Nanite Virus and suffered periods of pronounced mania from the time of his initial infection. During the worldwide lizard hunts, he became obsessed with the Hoagland Institute. The couple divorced in 2032, and Saira relocated to Barrett Base.
