Autumn and her sister grew up in the mansion that their great-grandfather, cannery billionaire Dinsmore Delevinge I, had built. The cannery had gone out of business when their father was a child and the mansion, besides being the family home, had become a seasonally operated inn. The family remained at the center of society in the communities of Desert Island, Maine.

Autumn's younger sister Winter was very competitive with Autumn. She had her first genetic augmentation when she was fourteen and her Winter was twelve. Winter quickly became taller, stronger and, according to many, smarter and prettier than her sister. by the time they were seventeen and fifteen, Autumn made a point to keep her boyfriends away from Winter.

In June of 2017, the family threw Winter a high school graduation party at the marina. Autumn came home from Amhurst where she had just completed her sophomore year in open studies, and other family members had come from across New England. A fire boke out in the banquet house from which no one escaped. A police report, later contested, stated that the doors had been chained. Neither Winter or Autumn's bodies were recovered.
