Delanie’s father, Philip Holbrook (1929-2009) was a lobbyist for the automotive and steel industries. Her mother, Sherri Talbert (1959-2050) was a psychologist with a practice limited to members of the U.S. State Department. Delanie is an only child.

While at the Bullis School, she cultivated a friendship with Princess Noor Pahlavi and became close to the Iranian royal family in exile. When Philip Holbrook passed away in 2009, Reza Pahlavi, Crown Prince of Iran, added Delanie into his will alongside his three daughters.

Delanie received her first genetic modification aboard the orbital platform in 2002. She had subsequent modifications aboard the station in 2005, 2008 and 2011. A fifth modification was performed at the Homestead laboratory in 2015. During the 2005 procedure, the three Pahlavi daughters were also brought aboard. Iman Pahlavi was approved as a test subject.

She met financier Kashif Gupta while spending time in the Pahlavi household as a teenager. Years later when she was a senior at the Nation Intelligence University in Washington, DC, she and Gupta were at the same party. The two became lovers and were married in 2012. This caused a falling out between Delanie and the Pahlavi’s as they had accused Gupta of having embezzled several million dollars of the money they had brought out of Iran.

Delanie was appointed Deputy Director of Defense Intelligence under the Secretary of Defense after the sudden heart attack of predecessor.  She and her husband relocated to Barrett Base after the collapse of the United States and was appointed to the Board of Governors of the Majestic Bank.  She later resigned from that position when she was appointed the first Governor of Mars.
