Sugar is the daughter of a Bay County Sheriff's deputy and a hospital nurse.  Her parents had struggled for years trying to conceive a child before utilizing a fertility clinic in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Sugar remained an only child.  Her parents, devote Baptists, thought of her as a gift from God.

Sugar received her first genetic augmentation shortly before her thirteenth birthday.  Always a bright child, Sugar blossomed when she was thirteen.  Intelligent, athletic, charming, attractive and strikingly mature, her parents attributed her growth to God's grace.  Active in both Bay City High's student government and its cheerleading squad, Sugar was very popular and dated regularly although she remained determined to remain "intact".

While a sophomore at Saginaw Valley State University, Sugar was well paid to do a photo-shoot for a men's magazine.  Her parents were extremely proud of Sugar's pictures and made sure that all of their friends from their Baptist congregation saw them.  She lost her virginity shortly after this but continued to remain very selective in her romantic encounters.

Sugar was hired by the Hoagland Institute after graduating from Saginaw Valley State and began working at the Titusville Administrative Complex.  Although it was two years before research was moved from Homestead to Merritt Island, Doctor Franklin Poe maintained a small staff preparing the new facility and performing special order augmentations.

Sugar opted out of a full synthetic implantation when the LaCroix Method was the standard procedure as her goal was to become a wife and a mother.  She continued to date but remained very selective.  Men who met her standards were rare.

In 2027, she accompanied three members of Rapid Response Team One in a hastily assembled mission to Austin, Texas to retrieve Mandy King who was exhibiting dangerous behavior after the DeMarco Nanite Virus mutated her previous augmentations.  Team member Hayden Perry's careless attention to her own pheromones led to her unplanned seduction of Sugar.  The two were girlfriends for nearly a year, and Sugar took the break-up badly.  Coworker Wanda Cox, who maintained an unparalleled reputation for sexual conquest used the opportunity to train Sugar in the world of sapphic love.  When Sugar's parents learned of her change in lifestyle, they were heartbroken and became distant.
