John was raised in Grand Forks, ND where his father, George Romano (1939-2015) was a hockey coach at the University of North Dakota. His mother Chelsea Gascon Romano (1941-2024) was a cellist with the Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra. In her later years she resided in Edgewater, FL. John has a younger sister, Jamie Romano O’Donnell (1973-2074), who was a court stenographer in Bismarck, ND.

His first marriage lasted eight years and neither he nor his first wife were ever happy.  They divorced shortly after the birth f their daughter Brittney.  John and Brittney never developed and relationship and he left North Dakota when she was ten.

John joined the Hoagland Institute in 2017 and ran the containment facility on Merritt Island.  He and his son were left behind when Hoagland and his second wife relocated to the moon.  He resigned in 2034 and the subjects housed in stasis were transferred to Barrett Base.  He worked for Florida Rail from 2034-2039.
